The Happiness of Pursuit by Chris Guillebeau BOOK REVIEW

At the time I'd read this book I'd already read The $100 Startup, which is one among my all-time favorite books and one that I attempt to reread per annum . I've also purchased one among his courses from Creative survive Travel hacking which was also excellent .

For those not conversant in Chris, his real claim to fame and what he's known for is completing a private quest of visiting every country within the world by the age of 35. Chris Guillebeau features a literary genre that's very readably digestible.

For this book, The Happiness of Pursuit, he outlines and provides sample case studies on the way to find, measure and complete your own personal journey. Reading The Happiness of Pursuit will (1) teach you ways it isn't about the destination, but the journey, (2) inspire you to pick your journey (3) the way to set and measure your achievement (4) set deadlines or the way to know when your finished (5) the way to affect distractions and stay focused (6) when to pivot or quit

Case studies include both his journey et al. who Chris has meet through his travels and experiences. Not all of those journeys involve travel. Some are from folks that never left home. Those homebased journeys, and amongst my most notable favorites include Scott Young, who completed a self-guided baccalaureate program in computing from MIT's free course catalogue inside 1 year, all for free of charge . (all of MIT's classes and degree programs are available for free of charge online, including coursework, lectures, tests, etc. which i feel is basically awesome). Like most of the book's samples, Scott documented his experience during a blog.

What personal journeys has this book inspired me to take? Having finished the book a couple of days ago and had a few week to believe this subject , here's my current list:

-Cook my way through the CIA textbook (Culinary Institute of America)

-Travel to and erode every eatery that Anthony Bourdain filmed in or wrote about.

-Speak, read and write nothing but Spanish for two months or until I'm 80% fluent, whichever comes first. then another language...

-Repeating the surfing adventure of 1 of my favorite movies, The Endless Summer 2. Traveling to all or any an equivalent beaches, and surfing an equivalent breaks.

The Happiness of Pursuit may be a Bible , worth reading and that i can't consider anyone who shouldn't read it. It really is for everybody . I also really love the title's play on words. I'm sure some potential readers won't see past the travel aspect and think they ought to pass due to childcare obligations or another barrier, but one among my favorite case studies was of Sasha Martin. Sasha cooked dishes from a special country hebdomadally until she had been through every country all round the globe, without ever leaving Oklahoma, so her newborn daughter was ready to see the planet through their table . All of those stories are about personal journeys that cause you to a far better human. Use this book to seek out your own Hero's journey of development and fulfillment. it's going to change your life.
